Axar Patel: Former Australia captain Aaron Finch has said he feels Axar Patel is someone who doesn't crave captaincy and is in a happy place, contributing to the team in "IPL 2023".

Finch's comments came even as legendary Sunil Gavaskar backed "Axar Patel" for the Delhi Capitals captaincy in the near future.

Axar Patel was named as deputy to David Waner, who took over the captaincy of Delhi Capitals after Rishabh Pant was ruled out of IPL 2023 due to multiple injuries he picked up after a car accident in December 2022.

Delhi Capitals' season has not gone according to plan as the former finalists have won only 3 out of 9 games, reeling at the bottom of the points table.

Delhi fought back from 23 for 5 to post 130 and successfully defend the total against defending champions and table-toppers Gujarat Titans on May 2 to keep their slim chances of making the playoffs alive.

"I think when a guy is batting so well and bowling so well like he is. He fields in the outfield and he is important to them there. For me, he doesn't come across as a guy who demands leadership. He doesn't really want it that much.

I think he is really happy about his own business, looking after his batting, bowling and doing his job for the team," Finch told Star Sports ahead of their match in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
